Avocado cultivation in the south of Spain began at the end of the 1960s and since then it has experienced great growth, increasing from 50 hectares in 1969 to 10,000 hectares at present. This increase is due to the favourable weather conditions in the region and the entry into production of new plantations.
The province of Malaga, specifically the Axarquia region where our company Avosnerja is located, concentrates 80% of the avocado production in Europe, with a surface area of 5,500 hectares, which is growing at an annual rate of 5%, occupying a privileged place in international trade together with other countries such as Mexico, the United States, South Africa, Chile and Israel.
The producers in the area have opted for the Hass variety used by Avosnerja in their products, because it is the noblest variety, standing out for its organoleptic properties and better conservation conditions.
